UPDATE: Passport processing times have dramatically increased due to high demand. For this reason, it is very important to apply for your passport as soon as possible. Although the entry/exit requirements have currently been relaxed due to the delays, travel after September 30, 2007 still requires a passport.

Where can I apply/renew my passport?
You can apply for or renew your passport by visiting one of the 8,000+ nationwide facilities designated for accepting passport applications.  To find your nearest facility visit the search page.

*One of 8,000+ facilities accepting passport applications, such as your local post office, municipal office, courthouse, library.

** Routine Service:  Normally Routine Service passports are received within 8-10 weeks, however, with very high volume this summer, it is taking up to 10-12 weeks.  If you are not traveling within the next 10 days, please check the status of your application online, keeping in mind that it is taking approximately 3 weeks for our system to start tracking your application.  If you are traveling within the next 10 days, please call or email the National Passport Information Center.

***Expedite Service:  As the resources that Passport Services has put in place to meet the challenge of increased passport demand become available, the timeframe for Expedite Service has changed as follows:
NOTE:

  • THERE IS NO CHARGE FOR AN APPOINTMENT AT A PASSPORT AGENCY. CUSTOMERS SHOULD NOT PAY ANYONE OR ANY BUSINESS MAKING SUCH A CHARGE.
  • Passport Agencies assist customers with urgent travel needs (generally if you are traveling within 2 weeks) and require proof of departure.
  • Most Passport Agencies are open by appointment only and require proof of your travel date or need for foreign visas. See List of Regional Passport Agencies .
